Health Promoting Schools
| 'A health promoting school is one in which all members of the school community work together to provide children and young people with integrated and positive experiences and structures, which promote and protect their health. This includes both the formal and the informal curriculum in health, the creation of a safe and healthy school environment, the provision of appropriate health services and the involvement of the family and wider community in efforts to promote health.' (World Health Organisation, 1995) |
What is a Sport Animator? A Sport Animator’s job is quite simple in concept; to facilitate a relationship between the schools and the surrounding communities to help increase the amount of opportunities available for youth to be physically active.
In the Halifax Regional School Board, Kate MacDonald, Sport Animator, provides support to all schools to sustain existing physical activity programs and identify more opportunities for children to become more physically active – macdonaldk@hrsb.ns.ca - 464-2000
