FOR SCHOOL COMMUNITIES
Health Promoting Schools

improvement in academic achievement and
reductions in health risks.

Learning and health go hand and hand. Good health of students is a requirement for school success. Good health of staff is important to the development of effective schools. Health Promoting Schools aim at empowering students, staff and families to actively influence their lives.
In the process of becoming a Health Promoting School, each school must listen to and take into account the views of students, parents and the community. The combined input leads to the identification of priority health issues and possible solutions.
There are many ways that families and communities can get involved in promoting the health of children at home, in school and in the community. Consider forming a Health Promoting School Committee which will work to identify and address health issues at the school.
