Funding Support

Health Promoting Schools

The costs of implementing HPS policies should be considered at several levels, namely, at the global, geo-political, national levels, and, within a country, at the regional and the local
health and education authority levels, and finally, at the school level.
At the higher levels, costs relate to policy development and maintenance of up-to-date advice including regular reviews of the evidence base.

The reality and costs of implementation vary between countries, and, at regional levels, may be difficult to identify and apportion separately. At the local level, costs depend on the existing infrastructure, and on the funding and support available from government and other organizations.

At the school level, costs include the initial training for policy development and review, modification to the school environment, provision of healthier alternatives, health education activities and continuing support for school staff, children and parents.

COMMUNITY HEALTH BOARD DEVELOPMENT FUNDS
The purpose of the Community Development Fund (CDF) is to support organizations and groups to improve health in their communities through community development - the community identifies the problem and solution(s) and is left with new knowledge or skills as a result of the process. Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity. A healthy community includes strong community organizations and opportunities for individuals to maintain and improve their health.  To apply for a CDF in your school community please click on one of the following Community Health Boards:

ECO ACTION
Since 1995, Environment Canada's EcoAction Community Funding Program has provided financial support to community groups for projects that have measurable, positive impacts on the environment. Funding support can be requested for projects that have an action focus, a community capacity building focus, or a combination of both objectives.

GETFIT STAYFIT
With the increased emphasis on activity and better eating habits by parents, teachers, and educational authorities as well as by Health Canada, our healthy fundraising program supports these positive objectives - while allowing schools to raise money for their projects. It's a healthy alternative to most fundraising options that will also support school nutrition and "healthy eating" initiatives.

GREENING CANADA'S SCHOOL GROUNDS
Greening Canada's School Grounds is a common sense grassroots movement whose time has come. There is a need to protect the health of school children by sheltering them from harmful UVB rays. Trees strategically placed on school grounds offer students some reprieve from the sun's rays.
