HEALTH PROMOTING SCHOOL LEADERS
Health and learning in school are interrelated.
Schools are better able to achieve their primary mission of education if students and staff
are healthy physically, mentally, and socially.
By using the Health Promoting School approach in planning and managing everyday programs and practices, schools maintain a strong focus on promoting the well-being of all
school community members.
Most schools are able to identify a range of health promoting activities currently operating in their school. However, a health promoting school is different in two essential ways:
1. There is a deliberate approach to plan and deliver activities which are coordinated across the three HPS components of curriculum, partnerships and policies that support healthy school environments.
2. The HPS approach is coordinated by a leader, or leaders, focusing actions and initiatives with school community members across the three health promoting school components towards their school’s plans for improvement.
